ChatAgent
Our Story

We built ChatAgent because we watched sellers burn out on WhatsApp

Not because WhatsApp is a bad channel. Because selling on it manually — at any real volume — breaks people.

What we kept seeing

Indonesian sellers have a channel problem that sellers in most other markets don't. WhatsApp isn't just preferred here — it's the primary commerce interface. Buyers message first, negotiate in chat, confirm payment in chat, ask for delivery updates in chat. The entire transaction lives in a conversation thread.

That works brilliantly at small scale. When you have 20 customers a day, you know each one. You remember what they ordered last month. You send them a follow-up because you remember their birthday is coming. The relationship is real and it converts.

But something breaks when volume grows. Sellers hit 50 messages a day and start missing enquiries. At 100, they're copy-pasting the same catalogue response sixty times before noon. At 200, they're awake at midnight because a customer just asked about a product and an unanswered message in WhatsApp feels personal in a way an abandoned cart notification doesn't.

We kept seeing the same outcome: sellers who built something real, something that worked because of how personal it felt, now trapped managing that success with their thumbs.

"The business is growing but I can't sleep anymore. I'm scared to miss a message."

— WhatsApp seller, Jakarta, 2023

The problem isn't WhatsApp

Every tool we looked at tried to solve this by moving sellers off WhatsApp. Use email automation. Use a Shopify store. Use a proper CRM. The implicit message: you've outgrown this channel, graduate to something more serious.

But that advice misses why WhatsApp sells. Customers aren't buying from a store. They're buying from a person they trust. The conversion rate in a WhatsApp chat is higher than any product page because the interaction is human, immediate, and two-way. Moving to email means accepting a worse channel in exchange for your sleep.

The answer wasn't to abandon WhatsApp. It was to give sellers the automation layer they were missing — without stripping away the conversational feel that made it work in the first place.

What ChatAgent is trying to do

We built ChatAgent to handle the mechanical parts of WhatsApp selling — the parts that are repetitive, time-sensitive, and easy to forget — so sellers can spend their attention on the parts that actually require a human.

Auto-replies when enquiries come in at 2am. Follow-up sequences that remember what a customer ordered and ask at the right moment if they want more. Order management that doesn't require copy-pasting from chat to spreadsheet. Broadcast messages that feel like a message from a real person, not a marketing blast.

The goal isn't to replace the seller. It's to give them back the headspace to be the seller they were when the business was smaller and the relationships felt real — at the scale their business has now reached.

Who we're building for

Our focus is Indonesian SMBs — the fashion sellers, food businesses, beauty brands, and home-industry makers who built their customer base on WhatsApp because that's where Indonesian buyers are. We think about UMKM owners with three to twenty staff, not enterprise sales teams with dedicated CRM administrators.

That means the product has to be fast to set up, readable in Bahasa Indonesia, practical for someone managing WhatsApp on a phone, and priced for a business that isn't yet at Series A.

It also means we care about things enterprise SaaS companies don't: what happens when a buyer sends a voice note instead of text, how to handle a payment confirmation screenshot, what the right follow-up interval is for someone who ordered once three months ago.

Where we are now

ChatAgent is live and handling real seller workflows in Indonesia. The product covers WhatsApp storefront, order management, sales automation, customer CRM, retention sequences, and broadcast messaging. We're still early — there's a long list of things we're building next — but the core problem we set out to solve is the one we're working on every day.

If you're a WhatsApp seller who recognises any of what we described above, we'd like to show you what we've built.

How we think about the product

Conversations, not campaigns

Broadcast messaging is a feature, not the product. The product is the relationship between seller and buyer — automation should support that, not replace it with blasts.

Indonesia-first

We build for how Indonesian commerce actually works: COD, marketplace-to-WhatsApp funnels, Bahasa Indonesia, bank transfer screenshots. Not a Western product localised.

Speed over perfection

A small seller can't wait six months for an enterprise rollout. Setup should take days, not months. Complexity should be optional, not required.

Automation that still sounds human

Automated messages that read like automated messages kill the WhatsApp advantage. Every message we help sellers send should feel like it came from a person.
